Choosing a Hudson Valley Wedding Venue

Couples usually pick a venue for the way it looks on a tour. We would gently suggest picking it for the way it looks at five in the afternoon in the month you are getting married.

Light beats architecture

A plain room with big windows will photograph better than a beautiful room with none. If you can, walk the space at roughly the hour your ceremony will happen, in the season you are booking.

Ask where the day actually happens

Where do you get ready? Is there somewhere to go if it rains? How far is the ceremony from the reception? Those three answers shape more of the gallery than the decor does.

Give yourself margin

The best photos on most wedding days happen in unscheduled time — twenty minutes where nothing is planned and the two of you are allowed to wander off.

We are replacing this post with a real venue feature soon. Get in touch if you would like our notes on a specific venue.
